Golden grins as wide as Cheshire cats for family-owned hospitality group after picking up two top awards

Nelson Hotels one of the UK’s leading hospitality groups are celebrating two gold awards picked up at this month’s Taste Cheshire Awards. The Pheasant Inn (Chester) triumphed with Best Pub tribute and The Fishpool Inn (Delamere) secured the judges vote in the Family Friendly Venue category, having already taken home the highest accolade for Best Pub in 2017.

The black-tie event (4th April), with more than 350 industry folks in attendance was held at the Pavilion Chester Racecourse. Now in its 18th year, the prestigious awards celebration comprising of 13 categories, is recognised as the pinnacle food, drink and hospitality honours in the Cheshire region. The organisers, Taste Cheshire; producers of the definitive guide to quality Chester & Cheshire food and drink, described the night as ‘one the best they’ve ever put on.’

Over 40,000 votes were cast by customers visiting venues throughout the region, after which the shortlisted were mystery dined and shopped by experts from the hospitality industry.

Taste Cheshire shared that the judges of the Best Pub category commented, “it had been incredibly tight judging but on the night in question everything was right at The Pheasant, the service, the food and the setting just couldn’t be beaten” before awarding The Pheasant Inn the gold.

Family Friendly Venue judges’ comments regarding The Fishpool Inn included “not only do they make accommodation for children with menus, inside and outside play activities but the staff engage and they even have bookable tables for those who want to bring their family dogs with them.” 

In support of the Nelson Hotels ethos, which Andrew Nelson, Operations Director stated is “to offer an exceptional service with a genuine warmth and hospitality within comfortable and pleasing surroundings”, the judges supported their top pick of the 18th century inn by observing “they have totally embraced the family.”

Hosted by Dee 106.3’s Gavin Matthews and We Love Cheshire Owner, Izzy Grey the night of glitz and glamour was attended by key members of the Nelson Hotels team. Michael Brackney, Group Revenue Manager sharing in the celebration said “we’re delighted to have not just one, but two more awards in recognition of the hard work our teams put in every day. Each of our inns, including The Bear’s Paw in Warmingham has its own individual style while consistently delivering a high-quality service and enjoyable experience for all our customers across our entire group.
